The first round of the NHL Draft has come and gone, bringing about its usual excitement, unpredictability and the inevitable booing of Gary Bettman.
Last season was the first in six seasons that the Washington Capitals did not qualify for the playoffs. They ended their campaign with a 38-30-14 record. This year the Caps came back to finish second on the Metropolitan Division and will face the New York Islanders in the first round of the playoffs. They even pushed to the 100 point threshold for the first time since Bruce Boudreau was the Caps coach. Read more

12.9 seconds were all that was left on the clock when Troy Brouwer beat Corey Crawford and sent the Caps to victory. It was a wonderful hockey game, a classic if you will. Alex Ovechkin would put Washington up 2-0 only to see Brandon Saad tie it in the second period. It was everything you wanted in a marquee event and the NHL delivered.
