The Manchester Monarchs closed the book on their time in the American League with a bang on Saturday, as they won the franchise’s first-ever Calder Cup with a 2-1 win over the Utica Comets.

Courtesy of a Sven Baertschi natural hat trick, the Utica Comets on Thursday took a 2-1 series lead over Grand Rapids in the Western Conference final.
While the Rangers convincingly forced a Game 7 on Tuesday (not a bad problem to have when you have a goalie as automatic in seventh games as Henrik Lundqvist is), their American League counterparts aren’t enjoying as much success in their Eastern Conference final against Manchester. Read more

The top-seeded Manchester Monarchs took the first game of their series with Portland on Thursday, winning 5-2 thanks to two-goal efforts from Jordan Weal and Brian O’Neill. Vincent LoVerde scored as well in an empty net, and added two assists. Jean-Francois Berube’s work in goal was essentially cut out for him as he saw just 16 shots, but let two of them in. Read more

While the Iowa Wild still remain in the basement, the Springfield Falcons and the Adirondack Flames have been flying high as of late, and have catapulted up the ranks in their respective conferences.
