News: Rangers Agree to Terms with RFAs Lindberg and Etem

Oscar Lindberg – Blueshirts United

The New York Rangers have just announced the signings of RFA forwards Oscar Lindberg and Emerson Etem. While the official terms of the contracts have not been released, we can safely assume that they were both signed to their qualifying offers.

Lindberg has grown a cult following of sorts as fans have been clamoring for him to be called up from the AHL and given a shot on the roster. He’s a dependable two-way forward who plays a cerebral game with and without the puck. This signing all but indicates that the team is finally moving on from the Tanner Glass “experiment” and signals that they are looking to have an effective 4th line this coming season.

Etem was acquired by the Rangers during the Draft as the return for the fan-favorite Carl Hagelin. Fans were upset about the trade at first, but with Etem’s speed and potential offensive upside, there is really nothing not to like about it. He was a dynamic scorer in Juniors and the Rangers are hoping he can rediscover that offensive spark in their top nine this season.

These were expected signings but they indicate the direction that the Rangers are looking to go towards with their roster. We can expect a stronger bottom six this year as the team looks to challenge for the cup again in the spring.
