Will Mike Babcock really leave Detroit for Buffalo?
The AP reported yesterday that Mike Babcock is in negotiations on a contract to coach the Buffalo Sabres. In an interview with Darren Dreger he stated that he would make his decision on May 20th. Well today is D-day for the more sought after coach in ages.
It’s hard to imagine a Red Wings team without Mike Babcock behind the bench. Our Dan Breeman wrote that since taking over in the Motor City after previously guiding the Anaheim Ducks to the Stanley Cup finals in 2003 where they lost to the New Jersey Devils in seven games, Babcock has become synonymous with the Red Wings.
In 10 seasons he led them to a Stanley Cup championship in 2008 and has guided Detroit to the playoffs in every year, adding to the Red Wings’ incredible streak of making the postseason for 24 consecutive years.
Now it appears that he may be looking to a new horizon and possible a brighter future with Evander Kane and Jack Eichel. The more you read about it from media outlets, the more likely it looks he will be heading to the Sabres.
The day has arrived and the cities of Detroit and Buffalo are eagerly awaiting his decision.
