Hammer comes down on Dustin Byfuglien: Suspended 4 games

Screen Shot 2015-04-02 at 4.39.12 PMThe NHL Department of Player Safety has come down on Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. After a phone hearing, Byfuglien will be suspended for 4 games of the Jets remaining 5.

This is surely good news for the L.A. Kings who are only 2 points behind the Jets for the final wild card spot.

According to the NHL DoPS head, Stephane Quintal, used words like “forcefully” and “defenseless” in his explanation. The fact that there was no injury is likely what saved Byfuglien from a far more serious ban. However, the real damage he likely caused will be to his team and the fans of Winnipeg who were on course to make the postseason.
