JS EMBED GIF from @Freedoooom Alex Ovechkin was injured on a hip check that apparently caught his right knee. He could not put any weight on it and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The injury occurred during the third period of a 3-0 win for Russia over Germany at the 2014 IIHF World Championship. The Capitals are frantically working the lines and trying to find out what happened to the face of the franchise. In the meantime, they have released a statement to their worried fan base. We are aware that Alex Ovechkin sustained an injury during today’s game versus Germany. Our medical staff is working with Ovechkin and Team Russia to gather additional information at this time. Initial diagnosis looks bleak and we could be looking at a torn knee ligament. Surgery and months of recovery would put Ovechkin’s start to the NHL season in jeopardy. Bottom line is this; whether he suffered a major injury or not, the NHL has a right to stop these athletes from playing in non-NHL competition. It’s time to leave these games to the amateurs, the way it should be.

For now, it’s wait and pray on Alex Ovechkin’s knee. Especially, if you are a fan of the Washington Capitals.
